Modelleisenbahnen haben auf der Hobbymesse Leipzig (ehemals Modell-Hobby-Spiel) einen ganz großen Auftritt. In diesem Jahr feiert der japanische Hersteller KATO mit einem eigenen Stand Messepremiere, darüber hinaus sind viele Stammaussteller wie Märklin, Tillig, Piko, Roco/Fleischmann, Hornby, Noch, Viessmann, Faller und Auhagen wieder mit dabei. Auch bei den Spezialmodellen erhält die Messe Zuwachs, unter anderem durch ASM Arndt Spezialmodelle. Prusa, der tschechische Hersteller mit den aktuell beliebtesten 3D-Druckern, stellt seine Neuheiten vor und verkauft direkt am Stand. Um in Leipzig dabei zu sein, reisen Besucher aus Entfernungen bis zu 300 km an, darunter auch Modellbahnfreunde aus den Nachbarländern, vor allem Tschechien und Polen. Eine Leipziger Besonderheit ist der Fachtreffpunkt Gleis 27, wo nicht nur hochwertige und ausgefallene Anlagen gezeigt werden, sondern die Modellbauer auch live arbeiten. So sehen Messebesucher die Entstehung klassischer Anlagen und äußerst spezieller Betriebsdioramen. Zum Gleis 27 gehört außerdem ein spannendes Bühnenprogramm, moderiert von Eisenbahnfreund Robby Mörre. Auf dem Modellbahn-Sofa nehmen Experten Platz. Hochwertigen Anlagenbau gibt es traditionell mit der Ausstellung des Bundesverbandes Deutscher Eisenbahnfreunde e.V. zu sehen. Der BDEF zeigt in diesem Jahr auf der Hobbymesse Leipzig zwölf eindrucksvolle Anlagen aus Deutschland, Italien, den Niederlanden, Polen und Ungarn. Strecken, Rangierabschnitte, Bahnhöfe und die Umgebungen wurden originalgetreu nachempfunden, mit viel Geduld und großem technischen Geschick der Anlagenbauer. Beispielsweise hat der AK Modelleisenbahn Dessau mit seiner H0-Anlage den Glanz der sechziger und siebziger Jahre bei der „Dessau-Wörlitzer Eisenbahn“ eingefangen. Unter anderem wurde ein dichter Wald mit mehr als 2.000 Modellbäumen nachgebaut, eine der vielen interaktiven Stellen spricht sogar den Geruchssinn an. Ein Höhepunkt der Messe ist ohne Zweifel die rund 70 Quadratmeter große Anlage von Roberto Haufe und seiner IG Railinnovation. Der gigantische Leipziger Hauptbahnhof wurde in ein Umfeld gebettet, das von Jahr zu Jahr stärker in die Innenstadt wächst. Hier hat das komplexe CarMotion-System auf den Straßen längst der Eisenbahn die Show gestohlen, ausgestattet mit den neuesten Viessmann-Testmodellen. Eine Leipziger Besonderheit ist auch die jährliche Ausstellung einer originalen historischen Dampflok am Stand der Sächsischen Dampfbahnroute. Hintergrund: Die Hobbymesse Leipzig - vorher als modell-hobby-spiel bekannt - ist die vielseitigste Freizeitmesse in Deutschland für Modellbau, Modelleisenbahn, Technik, Spiele, Kreatives und Sport. Hersteller und Händler bieten zum Auftakt des Weihnachtsgeschäftes ihre aktuellen Produkte an, dazu präsentieren sich etwa 100 Vereine mit aufwendigen Aktionen. Als Einkaufsparadies und riesige Erlebniswelt lädt die Hobbymesse Leipzig ein, Angebote zu testen, neue Hobbys zu finden und Gleichgesinnte zu treffen. 2023 waren 452 Aussteller aus 14 Ländern dabei sowie 69.700 Besucher. Die Messe ist am 20. und 21. September von 10 bis 18 Uhr und am 22. September von 10 bis 17 Uhr geöffnet. Die Tickets kosten 17 Euro, ermäßigt 13 Euro. Am Weltkindertag, den 20.
