When the Burlington Northern was created in 1970, it was the new railroad’s ex-Great Northern routes that took center stage in moving priority tonnage across the great American High Plains and Montana Rockies. And now, Burlington Northern railroading on the ex-Great Northern main line across Montana comes alive with Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02.

From High Iron Simulations, Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02 includes ten all-new and realistic career scenarios re-creating BN operations during the 1970s-1990s era on the Train Simulator Classic Marias Pass and Montana Hi-Line routes.

Train Simulator Classic’s Montana Hi-Line and Marias Pass routes together represent more than 250 route miles of Burlington Northern’s ex-Great Northern trackage extending from Havre to White Fish Montana, plus the railroad’s Kalispell branch line, and with Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02, you’ll go to work across the breadth of these popular routes.

With Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02, you’ll climb aboard and take the controls of eight diverse types of Burlington Northern Electro-Motive and General Electric diesels to handle heavy tonnage, priority intermodal traffic, locals, and switching duties.

With Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02, you will:

• Serve as engineer of Burlington Northern hotshot intermodal train No. 1 as it employs EMD SD40-2 diesels to make the unforgiving descent of the west slope of Marias Pass from Marias Summit to Whitefish.

• Climb aboard a stylish Burlington Northern EMD GP30 to lead BN Seattle-Chicago manifest freight No. 82 eastbound from Shelby on the Montana Hi-Line.

• Answer the call for a heavy Burlington Northern coal drag making its way west on the Marias Pass route from Cut Bank, with a quartet of burly General Electric U25C diesels providing the horsepower.

• Work an evening switching job at massive Havre Yard on the Hi-Line with a veteran Burlington Northern EMD SW1200 switcher as your locomotive.

Now available, Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02 brings to life BN operations during the 1970s through the 1990s on the Train Simulator Classic Marias Pass and Montana Hi-Line routes. Crossing the Flathead River near Essex, BN EMD SD40-2 7092 and its hot intermodal meet an eastbound freight on the west slope of Marias Pass.

Working an early evening yard job at expansive Havre Yard on the Montana Hi-Line, veteran Burlington Northern EMD SW1200 rolls a string of covered hoppers past a trio of BN EMD GP9s ready to power an eastbound grain train.

Four potent Burlington Northern EMD SD45s totaling 14,400 horsepower have 100 empty covered hoppers in tow on the Hi-Line, bound for the grain loading loop at Chester, Montana.

Montana is one of the world’s great grain producers, and the Burlington Northern is always busy collecting loads and distributing empties to the countless lineside elevators. In a scene from BN’s early years, GE U25B 5400, wearing its Great Northern “Big Sky Blue” livery, is on the point of a “grain collector” local.

Originally built for the Great Northern, Burlington Northern EMD F45 6601 is on the point at snowy Inverness on the Hi-Line as east and westbound tonnage meet. The ten career scenarios of Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 02 are based on actual railroad operations and train symbols.

Traditional branch line railroading awaits you on the Kalispell Branch (of the Marias Pass route) as a pair of Burlington Northern venerable EMD Geeps make up their local at Kalispell and then handle switching and lineside work en route.

With Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 01, you will climb aboard and take the controls of no less than eight types of Burlington Northern Electro-Motive and General Electric diesels to handle heavy tonnage, priority intermodal traffic, locals, and switching duties.

The railroad across Bozeman Pass was part of Northern Pacific’s main line between the Upper Midwest and Pacific Northwest. From Livingston, Montana, at an elevation of 4,484 feet, the line climbed westward on a 1.8 percent grade to its summit at 5,500 feet. The first Northern Pacific train crossed Bozeman Pass in January 1884, and today the line serves as a vital segment of the BNSF Railway.
With Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 01, you will:

• During the autumn grain rush, make a westbound end-to-end, Livingston to Trident (Montana) run across the Bozeman Pass route toting a heavy unit grain train with a stylish Burlington Northern EMD F45 on the point.

Created in 1970 through merger of the “Hill Lines,” the Burlington Northern Railroad was in its earliest days a rainbow of colors as the locomotives of the merged roads operated in original liveries. Powering BN manifest No. 24, General Electric U25C and U25B diesels wearing BN, Burlington Route, Northern Pacific, and Great Northern colors accelerate from Logan.

With pick-up and set-out work at Bozeman Yard completed, ex-Great Northern EMD GP30 2202 is on the point of BN regional freight No. 196 climbing the west slope of Bozeman Pass. The Burlington Northern inherited stylish GP30s from both Great Northern and Burlington Route.

In the early 1970s, Electro-Motive landmark SD40-2 was “new power.” On a winter day, a quartet of SD40-2s have just reached the rugged summit of Bozeman Pass and are about to enter the west portal of 3,015-foot Bozeman Tunnel.

At the massive Trident cement plant, regional freight No. 195 with a duo of EMD GP38-2s is making pick-ups and set-outs at the facility. Burlington Northern Scenario Pack 01 features operations across the length of the acclaimed Train Simulator Classic Bozeman Pass route.

Livingston, at the eastern foot of Bozeman Pass, was the site of a major yard and shop facility – and a magnificent station – dating back to the Northern Pacific era. Burlington Northern EMD GP9 1713 is handling shop and yard switching chores as an eastbound grain train powered by EMD SD45s grinds past.

It has been such great fun, but now it has to leave. The popular FahrBar coach pack for Train Simulator Classic will be removed from the Steam store this Friday 12th February.

The pack was released as a great fun add-on for TS Classic, with proceeds going to the organisation restoring the real FahrBar for a return to the rails. Now, that project has sadly halted, and with it the TS Classic FahrBar pack will leave the Steam store.
